From fresh bud to long-lasting bloom

Flower delivery day is here and you’re all excited to open up a lovely box of fresh stems. If this is your first delivery from us, the flowers may look a bit thirsty at first - especially stems like alstroemeria or roses like a good sip of water before they open up to their full floral potential.

But not only will they perk up in no time at all with the tips below; you’ll also be able to enjoy them a whole lot longer. Why? Because our flowers come to you directly from our fantastic growers, without hanging about in dark storage or transit. Arriving in bud makes our stems the freshest about, while it also allows us to minimise waste and work as sustainably as possible. Win win!

Flowers like lilies and peonies take a few days to open and fill out your arrangement. As they do so, you can watch your bunch change daily and enjoy it at its different stages until it reaches its fully bloomed peak.

Here are our tips for making the most of your one-of-a-kind arrangement

Give your flowers a drink of water

Simple, right? Right…with a few expert hacks.

First, you need to make sure that your vase is spotless so there are no bacteria in the water early on: give it a good clean using just vinegar or lemon juice (avoid washing up liquid).

Then when your vase is sparkling and ready, all you need to do is fill it about a third full with clean, room temperature water, which you need to change regularly.

Add flower food

In each box, you find two sachets of our secret recipe flower food. Use one whenever you change the water. It makes sure your stems get the nutrition they need while also keeping bacteria at bay.

Seeing as your flowers will last you beyond a week, you can also make your own flower food if you run out of ours.

Trim your stems

Just snip off about an inch of each stem before placing them in the water. Cut them at an angle, to make sure they can really drink up all that lovely H2O and food.

Change the water every three to four days

Take your flowers out of your vase, empty the old water out and give the vase a clean. Then add fresh water, flower food (ours or your own mixture) and cut your stems down by a bit.

You may need a shorter vessel as you snip a few inches off the stems each time: Our cutdown vase is ideal to keep your arrangement in perfect shape.

Keep your flowers in a safe spot

To really keep your blooms fresh and pretty for as long as possible, there are a few rules on where to best place them: Avoid direct sunlight, drafty spots, places near heaters and - interestingly - nearby fruit bowls.

Just following these few tips will leave you with flowers that are a joy to look at for up to two weeks - or even longer.
